In 2017, my mother was diagnosed with cancer.
She fought for a year — stronger than I’ve ever seen her.
And by some miracle… she won.
But what nobody tells you is that surviving cancer is only half the battle.
After the treatments ended, a different darkness began.
My mother fell into a deep depression.
She stopped smiling. She stopped moving. She stopped living.
And no matter how much my father, my sister, or I tried…
we couldn’t bring her back.
The house grew dim — not literally, but emotionally.
The woman who raised us was disappearing.
Then my father said something he had never said in his life…
“We need a dog.”
My father — the man who said no to pets our entire childhood —
suddenly understood something we didn’t:
Healing doesn’t always come from therapy.

Or medicine.
